LL-maskiner has manufactured machinery since 1968 and in pendulum arm terms the Spindeln, translates to the Spider, a 4 wheeled harvester launched in 1987, is the most well-known. Predecessor for Skogsjan 487, 495, 695 and later Caterpillar 550-580 and today Ecolog’s 500-serie harvesters. The 1086 and 1088 forwarders has a similar story.
At Elmia Wood 1989 the LL-Trollet 2000 had its premiere. Six pendulum arms pointing forward jeopardized the weight distribution fully loaded. Swapping pendulum arms aft made the difference. Two more machines were sold and built, still going strong with more than 40,000 hours on the meter. Two upscaled Trollet BIG were customized as wood chip shuttles. An application perfect for pendulum arm machines. If the machine needs to move inches or a few feet making sure the chips ending up right, the machine can be tilted, saving minutes every turn.
The cooperation between Skogsjan and LL-maskiner has solved numerous challenges. A patented hydraulic assembly between the pendulum arms maintains equal pressure without any energy supply. The articulation joint under the load bunks eliminating the shear between the axles is a Skogsjan solution. Some were disrupted over the transversely engine mount but missed the easy service access. Observe the aft pendulum arms pointing backwards.
A more powerful and impressing Skogsjan 2000 Soft appeared. Simultaneously the Skogsjan 695 harvester took off with 40-50 units sold in a few months. The “bad boy” harvester needed a companion. A bit of "ÖSA-system" thinking but lack of resources pushed back the forwarder part. Anyway, these machines convinced Caterpillar about the fact the Cut-To-Length system was the best way in forestry and Caterpillar Inc. acquired in March 1997 all assets of Skogsjan Ab.
After some half-hearted attempts within Caterpillar the development of the pendulum forwarder ended up in Australia, where hardworking engineers reconstructed and built this Log Forwarder 14 (ton) based on the disassembled 2000 soft. The LF14 made it to the Elmia Wood 2001 Forestry Fair, static displayed under the newly purchased Timberking brand. Savings on performance was on the contrary to Skogsjans conception. After homecoming down under the machine was driven, tested, certified and later on, donated to a technical training school where it was dismantled.
